Fetal response to external mechanical stimuli.
Several authors have recommended [1, 3, 8, 12] that the fetus be mechanically stimulated if the abdominal pregnancy CTG shows no accelerations. One expects the fetus to show a motor response to mechanical stimulation. Fetal movements expressed as accelerations in the abdominal CTG are considered to reflect "arousal" of the previously asleep fetus and are thought to be normal. An absence of such...
متن کاملHatching Egg Sanitation
Penetration of the hatching egg shell by microorganisms results in embryonic mortality, weak chicks, high chick mortality, and poor chick growth. The most effective sanitation system involves treating the eggs as soon as they are collected from the nest and before microorganisms penetrate the shell. Several recent research studies have examined the effectiveness, safety and ease of use of commo...
متن کاملDelayed response learning to visual stimuli in cats.
Six normally reared cats were trained on a three-choice delayed response task to visual stimuli. All cats mastered 1 min delay, three cats 2 min delay and one cat 6 min delay. Learning was much better than in previously studied cats reared in laboratory cages. It was comparable to that known for auditory stimuli in normally reared cats.
متن کاملDelayed response to light stimuli in binocularly deprived cats.
Cats binocularly deprived of pattern vision, born and cagereared in the laboratory, were trained on the delayed response task involving light stimuli with 0-, 5-, and 15-s delay. Control cage-reared animals, also laboratory born were not deprived visually. No significant group difference was found in the delayed response learning, both groups performing poorly, as compared to the earlier data r...
متن کاملAdaptive plasticity in hatching age: a response to predation risk trade-offs.
The life histories of many animals are characterized by niche shifts, the timing of which can strongly affect fitness. In the tree frog Agalychnis callidryas, which has arboreal eggs, there is a trade-off between predation risks before and after hatching. When eggs are attacked by snakes, tadpoles escape by hatching rapidly and falling into the water below. Eggs not attacked by snakes hatch lat...
